Deputy Brent Jenkins
End of Watch: 3/18/03

The RSA Family was recently saddened by the tragic loss of one of its own on the morning of March 18, 2003, when Deputy Brent Jenkins was killed in a traffic accident on I-10 while on routine patrol out of the Cabazon Station.

The exact cause of the accident was not yet known at press time for this edition of the APB, but the preliminary investigation has apparently ruled out a natural cause of death and speculation that Brent may have fallen asleep.

Hopefully, the investigation will be able to pinpoint the exact cause of the accident and put to rest much of the speculation that exists today.

The death of a fellow peace officer is always a painful event to deal with, but the death of one of our own can be particularly heart wrenching. While I did not personally know Brent, all accounts have described him as a loving and caring person who was deeply devoted and loyal to his faith in God, family, community, and our Department.

Undoubtedly, Brent and his quiet but strong and giving manner will be sorely missed by the many lives he touched, but each of us can find solace in a belief that his spirit has departed this world only to join God, and the time will come, through the grace of God, that we shall see him once again. Until then, I trust that Brent's journey here is complete, and he will achieve an even bigger and better purpose with our Father. May God bless and keep you Brent.

Dedicated deputy and family man
More than 1,200 attended the March 22 funeral service for Deputy Brent Jenkins who patrol car struck a tree on March 18.

Jenkins was remembered by co-workers, family and friends. Sheriff's Captain Ron Wade talked of Jenkin's work on search-and-rescue missions, "finding the stranded and the lost."

Jenkins, 45, died in a traffic accident off of Interstate 10 near the Beaumont Avenue exit.

The service was attended by about 300 family members, 500 deputies and hundreds of friends. Jenkins leaves behind a wife and six children. Sheriff's Deputies and California Highway Patrol lead a funeral procession along Alessandro Boulevard to Olivewood Memorial Park in Moreno Valley.

Jenkins was an active member of the Mormon Church. A Utah native, Jenkins attended seminary school for four years and was actively involved in leadership positions in the Moreno Valley church.

Jenkins, a 14-year Moreno Valley resident, had been assigned to the Pass area for five years.
