Purpose

The Riverside Sheriffs' Association has adopted this policy in order to more clearly define the manner in which donations and special events funding shall be dispersed.

Criteria

  1. Not withstanding section 6 & 7 below, any member of the Association, or member or organization of the Community at large, can request a donation from the RSA, but all requests must be in writing to the RSA Special Events and Donations Committee (SE&D), and submitted to the RSA office no later than 5 p.m. on the first Friday of each Month. Consideration of requests submitted after the first Friday of a given Month may be delayed by up to 30 days as the SE&D Committee meets only one time per Month.

  2. Requests must include a brief explanation of why RSA should make a donation to the particular cause in question.

  3. Donations requests submitted to the RSA require one of the following for approval:

    1. Approval, of the SE&D Committee, pursuant to Board Policy 99-11-03 or,

    2. On recommendation of the SE&D Committee, approval of the full Board of Directors for donations requests which exceed the authority of the SE&D Committee under "a" above.

  4. Normally, no more than one donation may be made to the same person, group, organization, team or Chapter in one fiscal year.

  5. Priority will be given to donations for groups and causes that are related to issues that affect RSA members, or which are important to the law enforcement community in general.

  6. Special Events Teams:

    1. RSA may donate to Special Event Teams, including but not limited to: Baker to Vegas, K-9 Trials, Sheriff's Pistol, and Police Olympics Teams. Team Captains must submit a completed application to the Special Events and Donations Committee, (SE&D), no later than the first Friday of the Month in which consideration of the request is desired.

    2. Donations to these events shall be limited to no more than six participating teams annually. To qualify, applicant teams must be comprised of a majority of Regular, Associate, or Affiliate members of the Association.

    3. Donations to each approved team shall be limited to entry fees only, and shall not exceed the cost of fifty percent (50%) of the total cost of entry fees, or, a maximum of $1,000.00, whichever is lower.

    4. Donations to qualified applicant teams are granted on a "first come - first serve" basis.

    5. Members of teams that accept RSA donations may be called upon by the SE&D Committee to assist in future special events / fund raisers sponsored by RSA to replenish the donations fund.

  7. Athletic Equipment for Stations & Bureaus:

    1. RSA may donate funds to a County facility, within an RSA Chapter, to go towards the purchase of weight lifting or other physical fitness equipment.

    2. Only County facilities that are staffed by a substantial number of Regular, Associate, or Affiliate RSA members, and represented by an elected or appointed RSA Director, shall qualify for a Donation.

    3. Donations for athletic equipment shall be limited to one-half of the full and actual cost of the equipment to be purchased, and shall not exceed $1500.00.

    4. Donations made by RSA towards the, purchase of athletic equipment is monetary in nature only. RSA assumes no responsibility for maintenance or upkeep of said equipment, nor does it assume liability in the event a person or persons become injured by use of the equipment.
